Terres Est-Ouest
Le Manoir
89560 Lain
France.

IN PUISAYE-FORTERRE
Terres Est-Ouest is at home in a region world-famous for its pottery. The founder, Dauphine Scalbert, is a recognised expert in Korean and Japanese ceramics, with 20 years experience studying and working on traditional ceramics in Europe, Korea, Japan and Latin America. In 1994 she came back to France and installed her studio at Lain.

She guides students in throwing pots, handbuilding, preparing clays, using slips, making ash glazes and firing. Ceramists and students from more than twenty countries have come to Lain, on cultural exchange bases (specially from Korea, Japan and Latin America). Those ongoing exchanges enrich Dauphine Scalbert's unique approach to craftsmanship, making Terres Est-Ouest a privileged place for students of traditional Oriental and western techniques.

A FEW WORDS
FROM
DAUPHINE SCALBERT

At Terres Est-Ouest we use a local clay, a vibrant material with a lively touch, the search for balance with respect to form and line is utmost in our work. Our decorations are made of slips, textures, oxides, varied clays and we use seals brushes, bamboo tools. Our glazes are made of ash, clay... Production is oriented to the table, the hands, the eyes..., the relation between shape and function is interpreted through the potter's heart. We welcome your ideas and will help you fulfil your desire to create exceptional objects to be enjoyed every day".
